Where to Eat in Salt Lake City

I ate some delicious food in Utah and I have to share my favorites with you. I won’t share every where I ate, because some places had mediocre risotto that was overpriced. But some places were yummy.

Night One: Greek Food @ Aristo’s

Can I just say yum? This was not the first time I went to a Greek restaurant, but it had been some time since I had Greek food that wasn’t Daphne’s. And I also finally tried dolmas, which previously I had been kind of chicken about doing  because I was sure grape leaves would be thick like leaves on a tree. Instead, they were soft and filled with a delicious vegetarian rice mix. After that I ordered Yemista, which is zucchini and bell pepper stuffed with a rice, potato, mint and crushed tomatoes and then baked. Again, delicious. And my blood and honey cocktail, super good.

Night Two: Wine and Cheese @ Zy

It was hard to get a reservation for our group of 5. We ended up sitting at two tables adjacent to each other. I ordered, at the recommendation of the waiter, the truffle potato soup which was fantastic. I also had a pear and walnut salad that was light enough along side the soup. For dessert: cheese and a Lodi pinot grigio. I chose 3 cheeses, the Humboldt fog goat cheese, a brie, and I think Barely Buzzed, which was a local beehive cheese. All were better than dessert. The food was fun and flavorful.

Snacks @ Bruges and CityCakes bakery

Bruges, named after the Belgian city, is popular place to get frites or waffles. I got the frites which were good especially with the spicy andalouse aioli. There was a bit of a wait for the fries and the staff had a very laissez-faire attitude, but they played great eighties music including 99 red balloons as I waited.

I was able to get my sweet tooth satisfied gluten free by finding CityCakes bakery and trying the chai cupcake. It was a bit of a trek from downtown SLC though and the surrounding neighborhood was sketchy. The cupcake was moist and delicious, not too dense.

I’m TOTALLY spoiled by Duffy’s family being Greek . . . not only do I know all of the Greek dishes, I know the ones that are good (and the ones that I find not-so-good). Stuffed grape leaves? Yum.

I love me a good cupcake.

My rinky dink little town also has a restaurant named Brouges — and they serve great fries :-)
